Race Info:
The Team Rocket
Tri Club invites you to participate in the 15th Annual John Masterson Memorial
Heart Center Rocketman Triathlon at 8:00 AM on August 24, 2008 at the Col.
Hudson Recreation Area on beautiful Redstone Arsenal. This race benefits
USMCR Toys for Tots Program. All participants and spectators are URGED
to bring a new toy to the race. The toys should be turned in at packet pickup.
If you wish to make an additional monetary donation to Toys for Tots please
make out a separate check to USMCR Toys for Tots and enclose it with your
entry..
Registration:
Race is limited
to 350 competitors. Due to military security considerations, all entries
must be received by August 21, 2008. There will be NO
race day registration. If you are not a U.S. Citizen, please check the
box on the entry form and note your nationality. Entrants younger than
age 15 must be approved by the race director, James Falcon, phone 256-656-7199
before entry.
Schedule of Events:
Saturday,
August 23:
1:00 - 6:00
PM Packet pickup and new toy drop off at Fleet Feet Sports. No bicycle
inspection required.
Sunday,
August 24:
6:00 - 7:00
AM Packet pickup and new toy drop off at Col Hudson recreation area. If
you do not have access to the arsenal you must enter the Martin Road Gate
1.
6:30 - 7:45 AM Body marking
& chip pick up
7:45 AM Begin lining up at the swim start for final instructions
8:00 AM RACE START
10:15 AM Bike course closes
11:45 AM Run course closes food, door prizes available at finish area.
Awards will begin as quickly as possible after last finisher.
Awards:
Awards will
be presented to the overall male and female. Age group awards will be
3 deep in 5 year increments starting at 15-19 ending with 85+ in male
and female. There will also be awards for the top three male and female
military participants and Clydesdale/Athena. The weight requirements for
Clydesdale is 200+ for males and Athena is 150+ for females. If you are
entering in one of these categories be prepared to weigh in at packet
pickup. Relay awards to top three in male, female, mixed, and military
teams. There will be no duplication of awards and you can not change categories
after entry.
Course Description:
Swim:
One half mile in the Tennessee River point to point
on two sides of triangular cours. Swimmers will enter the water in a time
trial format one at a time with a short interval. Swimmers will be seeded
based upon their estimated swim times provided on entry form. Estimated
times are as follows: Advanced (under 15minutes); Intermediate (15-20minutes);
Beginner (20+minutes).
Bike: 20.4 mile course
out and back on paved asphalt. The course has a couple of rolling hills,
but primarily flat and fast. No water on the bike course. It is recommended
that you carry at least one bottle on the bicycle. Please check your bike
to ensure that all bar ends are capped.
Run: 4.65 mile course
on a combination of asphalt roads, gravel roads and smooth gravel trail.
The run will be challenging due to heat and several gradual hills. There
will be several water/Gatorade stations on the course. Please stay hydrated!!!
Due to increased security on
Redstone Arsenal from the events of September 11 you are reminded that
all adults must have picture ID with them while entering. Also, all cars
entering must have proof of current insurance. Weapons to include knives,
guns, etc. are NOT ALLOWED on base. All vehicles
are subject to be searched. Please do not complain to the guards on the
gates if you and your vehicle are searched or delayed, but please thank
them as you pass through. Please get to the gate early we have worked
with the guards and moved the race start time to 8 am we will not delay
the start. (If the race is cancelled for any reason, partial refunds may
or may not be possible.)
Directions:
Entrance
to this race for vehicles that do not have an Arsenal sticker/pass must
be from Redstone Arsenal Gate 1, which is located on Martin Road, West
of South Memorial Pkwy, Hwy 231. Coming from the North on Hwy 231, turn
right, which is west, onto Martin Rd. Coming from the south on Hwy 231,
turn right and loop over South Memorial Pkwy onto Martin Rd. and continue
west. Redstone Arsenal Gate 1 is approximately 2 miles west down Martin
Rd. Continue approximately 2 miles on Martin Rd to the intersection of
Patton Rd South. Continue South on Patton Rd. and follow the signs to
the triathlon, which is at Col. Hudson Recreation area. All vehicles entering
the base without a sticker or pass must exit the Gate 1. If you do have
access to the Arsenal please try to use another gate if possible to reduce
congestion at Gate 1.
Special Instructions:
All adults
attending the race must have a valid form of ID to enter Redstone Arsenal,
such as drivers license. This applies to spectators as well as competitors.
No cameras will be allowed onto Redstone Arsenal. If you do not pick up
your packet on Saturday August 23, you must get to the race site early
and pick up your packet there. Make sure you have your USAT card with
you or be prepared to buy a one day pass.
