DC Tri Race Report

on Tue, 06/21/2011 - 21:45

Courtesy of Mike Gerrity:

What a great Daddy’s Day I had, as my daughter and TRTC member Denise and I competed in the 2nd Annual DC Triathlon together.  Left H’ville Wednesday to spend a few days with Denise and fiancé Kyle Joplin, before going to DC on Saturday.  Arrived at the Convention Center where we picked up our race packets.  Then rode our bikes (police escort) approximately 3 miles to the Transition Area (TA).

Before entering the TA, we stopped to put our race numbers on our bikes, and guess who did not have his numbers?

Try Boro Kid's Triathlon

on Wed, 09/01/2010 - 00:00

Courtesy of Rick Tuggle:

My daughter, 9, and son, 7, participated in the Try Boro Kid's Triathlon, http://www.tryborokidstri.org/, in Murfreesboro, TN, on Saturday.  Their junior division (7-10) consisted of a 100 yard swim, 2.4 mile bike, and half mile run.  The senior division (11-14) did twice that.

The race committee did an awesome job of setting up clinics throughout the summer to prepare for the race.

Iron Girl Atlanta

on Thu, 07/01/2010 - 00:00

Lake Lanier, GA – A group of 12 “Rocket City Iron Girls” travelled to Atlanta for the weekend for the sprint triathlon in the gorgeous resort of Lake Lanier.  There were around 1000 racers, all women.  The swim was a wave start by age instead of ability (loved that).  The biking was a challenge – 18 miles of hills, some gradual, some steep (many walked up the steepest hills), and just a few downhills (seemed like many more uphills than down…)

Also a lot of the biking was done amidst resort and surrounding area traffic, which seemed a little treacherous at times.

Callaway Gardens Tri

on Mon, 06/21/2010 - 00:00

Courtesy of Larry Newman: I had the pleasure of doing a sprint triathlon on Father’s Day at Callaway Gardens over near Pine Mountain, Georgia, an unbelievable venue for a race. It was well organized and huge, with 1500 racers participating, many first timers. I pretty much got my butt kicked which I blame on the yard work I did at mom’s house and not the fact that there were some really good triathletes there. ☺ The swim was a wave start in a beautiful, clear, pristine lake. The swim followed the shoreline and was a perfect for beginners and experienced racers alike.
